Newer parts bought are not painted. Most parts are purchased with a primer and the surface texture of the primer layer is created to exactly replicate the factory layer depending on the make and vehicle type. There is no single rule for paint timing for each part, as paint specifications may vary by the vehicle manufacturer and workshop timing may vary depending on assembly requirements.

Bumper painting and repair is one of the most common body shop processes as far as plastic repair is concerned. One reason for this is the position of the car body and its susceptibility to damage.
